Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 1st, 2026
BirthdayHQ is built to work entirely on your device. We don't run servers that store your birthdays, contacts, or personal notes, and we don't have accounts, logins, or a backend database of our users. This policy explains exactly what the app accesses, why, and where it goes — which is nowhere but your own device.
What the app accesses, and why
Contacts. If you choose to import from Contacts, the app reads the birthday field already saved on your device's contacts, with your explicit permission via iOS's standard permission prompt. This data is copied into the app's local storage on your device and is never transmitted anywhere.
WhatsApp chat exports. If you choose to import from a WhatsApp chat export file, the app scans the file locally on your device for birthday-related messages. Only names and dates are extracted while the surrounding message content is discarded and never stored or transmitted.
Facebook. If you choose to import from Facebook, the app opens an in-app browser to Facebook's birthdays page using your existing, already-logged-in Facebook session. It reads birthday information that is already visible in order to add it to your own local birthday list. The app does not access your Facebook account credentials, does not act on Facebook on your behalf, and does not transmit anything to a server. You can alternatively import a .ics calendar file exported from Facebook through your own browser.
Notifications. Birthday reminders are scheduled locally on your device using iOS's standard notification system. No push notification server is involved, and no data about your reminders is sent anywhere.
Information you enter directly. Names, dates, relationship categories ("circles"), personal notes, and gift history you enter manually are stored only in the app's local storage on your device.
Where your data is stored
All birthday data is stored locally on your device using standard iOS on-device storage. It is not synced to a cloud service, not backed up to any server we operate, and not accessible to anyone at any point. Deleting the app deletes all the data.
Third-party links
Some screens include links to third-party services, such as Amazon for gift suggestions, and card services such as Moonpig, TouchNote, Paperless Post, Evite, Canva, and Greetz. Some of these links are affiliate links: if you make a purchase after tapping one, BirthdayHQ may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Tapping any of these links takes you to that company's own website or app, where their own privacy policy and tracking practices apply. BirthdayHQ does not control and is not responsible for what happens once you leave the app.
What we don't do
- We don't run analytics or usage tracking of any kind inside the app.
- We don't sell, rent, or share your data (because we never receive it in the first place).
- We don't require an account, login, email address, or any personal identifier to use the app.
- We don't use your data for advertising or profiling.
Children's privacy
BirthdayHQ is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not collect information from any users.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Since the app doesn't collect contact information from you, we're not able to notify you directly, so checking back here periodically is the best way to stay informed.
